Sprint to Unlock Phones?

Coolest-Gadgets.com has a blurb that Sprint may start unlocking phones for use in their network. Caution, we have not been able to second source this, so treat it as rumor.

Advantage to Sprint? Well it would give them an opportunity to garner some customers who have CPE from another carrier. So long as your existing phone supports CDMA. (AT&T and T-Mobile sorry no mas.) But it would also open up the market to them of ‘foreign’ devices that support CDMA that they just have not allowed in the network before. Good marketing? You bet. Impacts? Well if Sprint actually does this with little or no restrictions it could be huge. The other carriers won’t sit on their hands if this happens. The whole CPE market would bust open.

Linky.
