OpenWengo Unoffically Dead
OpenWengo has unoffically ceased as of November 2007. It’s developers have been released to go pursue other opportunities. Is the software just going to die? No. There is still a community of developers that will provide updates and bug fixes. But the development core will stall unless another team and sponsor can ba assembled.
But Dog there is Android, why is the loss of Wengo a problem? Two different markets Dear Reader. OpenWengo and Skype operate in a open loop VoIP environment. If you can push a TCP packet to two computers you can do VoIP. Android is an open device standard that will be targeted to a closed loop have to be on a particular network kind of model.
For the Open Source community it would be a serious blow. Open Source has one major hole — a PDF application. Sure there are PDF tools galore - KPDF, Ghostscript, etc. But FOSS does not have anything comparable to Adobe Acrobat Professional. With OpenWengo to wither would make 2 major holes. Both of which are critical business tools these days.
While making a web site design, keep the purpose of making the website in your mind whether you’re making it for online advertising or just to show your web presence. There are many different forms of online marketing, you can benefit from. This purpose should be clear in your mind through each and every step i.e. domain hosting or advertising campaigns.
