Quick takes

angrymob Verizon strike ends where it began. Outside of disrupting the lives of non union employees, lots of noise and lots of vandalism, what was accomplished?

Leo Apotheker wants his tablet blunder out of the supply chain ASAP.

Danish hospitals switch to Libre Office. I hope they’re ready for their Windows license inventory audit.

I’m adding RIM to our dead pool.  New Crackberry music service proves its management is completely out of touch with the real world.

Thanks to the connected car, Internet radio is poised to explode.

Ailing SGI (yes, it’s still around) nudges closer to health.

Boy RIM is out of touch. Consumer oriented functions are small compared to their business focus services. A definite dead pool kind of move.

I don’t agree with the presumption in the ZDnet article that the HP firesale ruins the tablet market. Tech has had firesales due to bad boardroom decision since IT came into being. You can add some pretty big names to that list — Apple (remember the Lisa, that begat the Mac?), Cisco, IBM, Xerox. IT boners are made all the time.

HP’s problem is that they are exiting the one category that made the successful. A top quality product that was available in several industries. There is still demand for that kind of product — electronics, health care, automotive to name a few.

I hear from one who should know that Apotheker pushed to get a tablet out before it was fully baked. If he spins the hardware biz off to shareholders, he might be doing them a favor. It would insulate that relatively stable business from his incompetence.
