ReDux: Will Linux and net based apps take over the low end computer market?
Our posting on Linux taking over the low end is being reinforced. Everex has confirmed the development of a laptop that will use the gOS. Same OS they are using for the very popular WalMart PC. This is positioning Everex to compete against the Asus EEE PC.

Will the Everex compete against a Dell XPS? Nope. Its specs are derived off a variant of the VIA board that drives the WalMart PC. But with the gOS and your docs online this unit has more than enough power for its target market. This unit is expected to compete against the ASUS EEE PC notebook in the same space. Were I Panasonic and Sony I would be very worried. Everex and Asus will be eating your respective lunches.
Two versions will be available. The standard model is expected to sell for $400. A developers edition with a touchscreen has not been priced as yet. This is yet another Eggo moment for Google. And yes the Boss is right, the low end of the PC market shall be dominated by Linux.
